Liju Krishna was born on 23 February 1992 in Kannur, Kerala, and grew up in the village of Maloor. He completed his early schooling at Mambaram Higher Secondary School and moved away from home to pursue further studies in the performing arts. He earned a Bachelor of Theatre Arts with a specialization in acting and a Master of Theatre Arts from the School of Drama & Fine Arts, University of Calicut. He also completed a Diploma in Design & Digital Film Making from Image College of Arts in Chennai.

Career

Liju Krishna built his career across both theatre and cinema. While studying at the School of Drama & Fine Arts, he founded Saga Entertainment, a Thrissur-based cultural group intended to produce and promote contemporary work in theatre and film in Kerala.

He began making short films early in his career. His independent short Photogenic (2012) marked an early screen debut and went on to win awards at national short film festivals. He wrote and directed the 2017 independent Malayalam short film Ima, produced by Saga Entertainment and featuring veteran actor Pratap Pothen; that film explored the tender relationship of a middle-aged couple.

On stage, Liju wrote, designed and directed the Malayalam play Moment Just Before Death, produced by Saga Entertainment and Sunny Wayne Productions. First staged at JT Pac in Tripunithura, the production drew on the culture and childhood stories of northern Kerala. Despite challenges in finding suitably intimate theatrical spaces, the play toured festival circuits, earned nominations and won recognition at the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards in 2014 for Best Actor and Best Designer.
