Early life and background

Fayyaz Hussain Shah was born in Pakistan and later pursued a career in the Pakistan Army. After completing his graduation he sought officer entry and joined the Pakistan Military Academy as part of the 80th Long Course. His early training led to a commission in the 4th Battalion of the Sindh Regiment, where he began service as a second lieutenant.

Career

Shah’s military career progressed through a sequence of command appointments. In the course of his service he served as a company commander, battalion commander and brigade commander within his regiment and later the wider army structure. He was promoted to major general in February 2018.

In April 2018 Shah led a delegation of twenty-one officers from various branches of the Pakistan Armed Forces on an official visit to Sri Lanka for bilateral defence discussions, meeting Sri Lankan military counterparts during that trip.

Shah served as Inspector General of the Frontier Corps (North) in Balochistan, a role in which the force under his command contributed to security at trade terminals established by the provincial government in areas affected by militancy. Those security arrangements were part of efforts that supported Pakistan–Afghanistan trade cooperation. He left the IG FC (North) appointment in 2021.

Following promotion to lieutenant general on 11 October 2022, his first posting at that rank was at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi where he served as Inspector General (Arms). On 12 May 2023 he assumed command of the Lahore-based IV Corps (also referred to as the 27th Corps Commander of the Lahore Corps), relieving the previous corps commander.
