Lukman Avaran was born on 22 May 1990 in Changaramkulam, Malappuram, Kerala. Raised in a conservative Muslim family, he grew up with four siblings — one elder and three younger. He completed a Bachelor of Technology in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation at the Royal College of Engineering and Technology in Thrissur district, Kerala.

Although he took part in stage plays during school and college, acting did not initially seem like a likely career path. A chance opportunity to audition for a filmmaker from Kozhikode prompted him to pursue acting seriously. To broaden his prospects, Lukman moved from Malappuram to Kochi and supported himself by working in a call centre and at medical shops while attending auditions.

Career

Lukman began his film career with supporting roles. His on-screen debut came in the Bengali film Khondo Golpo 1971 (2011), which premiered at the Bangladesh War of Liberation in Celluloid Festival in Kolkata. He made his Malayalam film debut in Dayom Panthrandum (2014), taking on a supporting role.

Over the next several years he continued to build his filmography with small but visible parts. In 2015 he appeared in KL 10 Patthu as Nasarullah. He also worked behind the camera as a cinematographer on the English project From Freetown TL (2016).
