Early life and background

Mahanaryaman Rao Scindia was born on 17 November 1995 and raised in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He is the son of politician Jyotiraditya Scindia and Priyadarshini Raje Scindia. The family home is Jai Vilas Mahal in Gwalior, a place he has returned to frequently while promoting the city’s heritage.

Mahanaryaman attended The Scindia School before completing his senior schooling. He took a one-year break after school that included an internship with Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, an experience he has said taught him about humanity. He went on to study at Yale University, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science, and also completed a short course at the London School of Economics’ summer program in Middle East and global politics.

Career

Following his education, Mahanaryaman worked with the Boston Consulting Group in Mumbai, where he gained corporate experience handling projects for companies such as SBI, Jindal Steel Works and Tata Motors. He later undertook internships and projects internationally, including with Macro Advisory Partners in New York, Christie’s and the SoftBank Group, and with Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness Commission.

Mahanaryaman has taken a varied entrepreneurial path since returning to India. He founded Undersounds Entertainment and organised events at heritage sites in collaboration with groups such as Cercle, Cymbal Rotations and Oscillate. One of his heritage-focused projects, Pravaas, launched its first edition at Jai Vilas Palace in Gwalior and aimed to involve local artisans, restaurants, musicians and startups to promote tourism and pride in the city’s history and culture.

He has a particular interest in music and helped start music events including Symbol and the Campbell Music Festival in the United States. In 2022 he co-founded MYMandi, an agricultural startup that buys fruits and vegetables in bulk, packs them and distributes to buyers; the company was operating in cities including Jaipur, Nagpur, Gwalior and Agra.

Mahanaryaman has also been active in initiatives that bridge communities. He founded Koshish, a Track II diplomacy peace initiative that organised a 60-member conference bringing together high school students from Pakistan and Bangladesh to discuss subcontinental relations and youth perspectives.

Public profile

While he is known publicly as the son of Jyotiraditya Scindia, Mahanaryaman has been directly involved in political activity as well. He campaigned for his father in the 2019 Guna Lok Sabha elections and has appeared alongside him at public events, including a visit to the Mahakal temple in Ujjain in 2018. In June 2018 he delivered a political speech in Shivpuri.

He has an interest in cricket administration and in 2022 was elected vice-president of the Gwalior Division Cricket Association. He later served as a board member of The Scindia School in Gwalior. On 1 September 2025 he was unanimously chosen as president of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, becoming its youngest-ever president and marking the third generation of the Scindia family to lead the institution.

Mahanaryaman has received recognition beyond his ventures; he was awarded the Soulsteer Award in 2016 and has appeared on magazine covers. He pursues hobbies such as cricket, music, and cooking, and has said he once wanted to become a chef. He follows a non-vegetarian diet and practices the Hindu faith.
