Early life and backgroundManasi Joshi was born on 11 June 1989 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and spent much of her formative years in Mumbai. She attended Atomic Energy Central School in Mumbai and later earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic engineering from K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering. Her father, Girishchandra Joshi, worked as a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai. She has two siblings: a brother, Kunjan Joshi, an entomological researcher, and a sister, Nupur Joshi.
Manasi began playing badminton as a child alongside her father and continued the sport through her school years. She maintained an interest in traveling and swimming outside of sport.
Career
After completing her degree, Manasi joined Atos India as an employee. In 2011 she experienced a catastrophic road accident that resulted in the amputation of her left leg. She spent nearly fifty days in hospital and later learned to walk with a prosthetic limb. Despite the injury, she remained employed at Atos and reconnected with badminton when her company organised a workplace tournament; her participation and victory there set her on a new competitive path.
Manasi made her international para-badminton debut at the Spanish Para-Badminton International Championship in March 2015. She trained under coaches including J. Rajendra Kumar and Pullela Gopichand, and in 2018 she enrolled at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad to further her training.
Her results at continental and world level reflect a steady rise. In 2015 she earned a medal in mixed doubles at the Para-Badminton World Championships. At the 2016 Para-Badminton Asian Championships she won bronze medals in both women’s singles and women’s doubles.
