Manasvi Mamgai was born in Delhi and spent much of her childhood in Chandigarh. She attended Hansraj Public School in Panchkula and Carmel Convent School in Chandigarh. Her family roots trace to Uttarakhand: paternal ties to Garser village in Bageshwar district and maternal connections to Nainital. Her parents are Janmejay Nailwal, an engineer and contractor, and Prabha Nailwal, a retired teacher from Uttarakhand. She has no siblings.

As a child and teenager she competed in performing and sports activities, winning skating events in the late 1990s. She trained in Indian classical dance forms including Bharatnatyam and Kathak and also received lessons in Hindustani classical music. In her youth she hoped to pursue modelling and later set aside an architecture seat after completing 12th grade to follow that path.
