Early life and backgroundManchu Vishnu Vardhan Naidu was born on 23 November 1981 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He grew up in Chennai, where he attended Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan for school before moving to Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College in Tirupati to complete a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Information Technology. He comes from a film family: his father is actor Mohan Babu and his mother is Nirmala Devi Manchu. He has two siblings who are also in the entertainment industry — brother Manchu Manoj and sister Lakshmi Manchu.

Vishnu first appeared on screen as a child artist in the Telugu film Ragile Gundelu (1985). He made his debut as a lead actor with the film Vishnu in 2003, a performance that earned him the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for Telugu cinema that year.
