Early life and background

Mangesh Kashyap was born on 1 July 1968 in Bihar, India. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Arts in Bihar before appearing for the Civil Services Examination. His hometown is listed as New Delhi.

Career

Kashyap began his policing career after completing two years of formal training and was allotted to the 1995 Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS) cadre. He was deputed to the Delhi Police on 1 May 1995. In 2009 he was moved into the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, where he continued his service.

Over the years Kashyap has held a range of operational and administrative roles. His appointments have included Additional Deputy Commissioner in the Delhi Police, Deputy Commissioner of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police, and Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. He has also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police for Security TRG in New Delhi and as Deputy Commissioner of Police for Rashtrapati Bhavan.

In 2016 he was appointed CVO of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation after the Central Vigilance Commission cleared the nomination; that selection followed a publicly noted dispute over the post. In 2023 Kashyap was serving as DCP-RP Bhawan when he was promoted and transferred to the position of Additional Commissioner of Police for Security in the Delhi Police. In 2022 he reached the Selection Grade (Level-13 in the Pay Matrix), a recognized step in the Ministry of Home Affairs pay structure.

During his career Kashyap has been involved in high-profile operational work. In an interview he cited an early, challenging murder investigation—where several people including a school principal were killed—as a deeply rewarding moment when the investigation led to the arrest of the perpetrator.

Public profile

Kashyap is known publicly as the husband of television news anchor Anjana Om Kashyap. He is an Indian national and his zodiac sign is Cancer. Physical details recorded include a height of approximately 178 cm (about 5 feet 10 inches), with black eyes and black hair.

His tenure and actions as an IPS officer have appeared in public reports and court proceedings. In 2013 a Supreme Court hearing referenced an affidavit filed by Kashyap concerning the rationale for providing VVIP security; the court criticised that reasoning in the course of its wider consideration of who should receive formal security cover.

Personal life

Mangesh Kashyap is married to Anjana Om Kashyap. The couple have two children, a son and a daughter. Details about his parents are not publicly available in the supplied information.

Outside of policing, Kashyap is a pianist who enjoys playing Hindi songs on the piano in his leisure time.

Latest updates
