Career

Manjula began her film career working as an assistant director with her father. Early credits include assisting on the Telugu films Balachandrudu and Anna Thammudu in 1990. She later moved into acting, producing and directing, founding the banner Indira Productions to back projects she believed in.

Her acting debut came in 1998 with the Malayalam film Summer in Bethlehem, in which she played the role of Aparna. She subsequently appeared in Tamil and Telugu films, with early roles such as a part in Rajasthan (1999) and the Telugu film Show (2002), where she both produced and acted. Show won national recognition, receiving the National Film Award as Best Feature Film in 2001 and earning Manjula a Nandi Special Jury Award as producer.

Manjula has produced and co-produced several Telugu films across the 2000s and 2010s. She produced Naani (2004), starring Mahesh Babu and Ameesha Patel, and co-produced the 2006 hit Pokiri, which won the Nandi Award for Best Popular Feature Film. She has spoken about dealing with depression in the aftermath and about how meditation, yoga and long-term self-development work helped her regain confidence and clarity.

Outside film, Manjula is a businesswoman who owns the brand Sow Fresh. She is also known to be an avid dog lover and has spoken about a pet named Snowy. Her personal life includes marriage to producer-actor Sanjay Swaroop, with whom she has a daughter, Jhanavi Swaroop.
