Manoj Tiwari was born on 1 February 1971 in Atarwalia, Bihar. He grew up in that region and later studied in Varanasi, attending Shri Kamlakar Chaubey Adarsh Seva Vidhyalay Intermediate College before enrolling at Banaras Hindu University, where he completed an M.P.Ed in 1994. He is commonly known by the nickname Mridul.

Career

Tiwari began his career as a performer and became a prominent figure in Bhojpuri entertainment. He made his film debut with the 2004 movie Sasura Bada Paisawala and later appeared on television, including the series Chak de Bachche in 2008. He established himself as a singer as well, performing in religious venues in Varanasi early in his career and later recording songs for broader audiences, including a Bhojpuri rendition connected to a 2016 Bollywood release.

Alongside his entertainment work, Tiwari entered politics. He first contested a Lok Sabha seat in 2009 on a Samajwadi Party ticket from Gorakhpur. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2013 and won the North East Delhi parliamentary constituency in 2014. He retained that seat with further victories in 2019 and again in 2024.
