Early life and background

Mathew Thomas was born on 16 October 2002 in Thiruvankulam, Kerala. Raised in a family with a father who worked as an engineer and a mother employed as a school teacher, he grew up in the town where he was also schooled. He attended Gregorian Public School in Maradu, Ernakulam, and later studied at Chinmaya College of Arts, Science, and Commerce in Tripunithura, completing his graduation. Mathew follows Christianity.

Career

Mathew began his film journey while still in school. He auditioned for his first Malayalam feature during tenth grade and started shooting after his board exams. His screen debut came in 2019 with the Malayalam film Kumbalangi Nights, in which he played the character Franky Napoleon. Preparing for that role required practical skills—he learned to swim, cast nets, row, play football and cook to bring authenticity to the part.

Following Kumbalangi Nights, Mathew gained wider recognition for his leading role as Jaison in the coming-of-age film Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019). That performance earned him industry attention and contributed to awards he collected early in his career.

He has taken on a range of roles across Malayalam cinema, including parts in Jo and Jo (as Jomon, 2022), Christy (as Roy, 2022) alongside Malavika Mohanan, and Journey of Love 18+ (as Deepak, 2023). Mathew also made his Tamil film debut in 2023 with Leo, in which he appeared as Parthiban (the son of Parthi) and shared screen space with established actors such as Vijay, Trisha Krishnan and Sanjay Dutt.
