Medha Shankar was born on 1 August 1997 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Raised in a family with musical interests, she trained in Hindustani classical music during her school years and learned sitar, harmonium and keyboard before stopping formal lessons after Class 10. Her early years included regular participation in singing and dance activities at school, influenced in part by her mother’s involvement in choreographing and directing children's performances in their residential community.

She attended Vishwa Bharti Public School in Noida and later studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi, where she completed a master’s degree in Fashion Management. During college she was known for a spontaneous, outgoing personality and has recounted that some of her most memorable campus moments involved skipping classes.

Medha began her on-camera work while still a student. In 2015 she appeared as Maya in the short film With You for You Always. She entered beauty pageants as part of her early career development and took part in the Campus Princess 2016 competition run by the Miss India Organization, a platform that feeds contestants into larger national pageants.
