Early life and backgroundMeera Nandakumar, professionally known as Meera Nandan, was born on 26 November 1990 in Elamakkara, Kochi, Kerala. Raised in the same neighbourhood, she completed her schooling at Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Communicative English from St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam and later completed a master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism through distance education at Manipal University. She grew up wanting to become a journalist and counts Hrithik Roshan and Mohanlal among her favourite actors.
Career
Meera began appearing on screen in the mid-2000s. Her early television work included a supporting role in the Malayalam series Veedu on Surya TV in 2007, for which she received a Kerala State Television Award for Best Supporting Actress. The same year she was involved with the reality show Idea Star Singer on Asianet, where she initially auditioned as a contestant but was retained as a host.
Her feature film debut came in Malayalam cinema with Mulla (2008), in which she played Lachi. The performance brought her wider recognition and several newcomer honours, including a Filmfare Award South for Best Female Debut and the Asianet Film Awards’ Best New Face of the Year (Female). She followed that with a memorable turn as Sreedevi in the 2009 action thriller Puthiya Mukham.
Meera expanded into other South Indian film industries, making her Tamil debut with Vaalmiki (2009) and later appearing in Ayyanar (2010) as Anitha.
