Melek Mosso was born Melek Davarcı on 11 November 1988 in Kayseri, Turkey. Raised in a Muslim family, she trained in the arts from an early age. She attended a Fine Arts High School and continued her formal musical education at Adnan Menderes University in Aydın, studying in the Department of Music Teaching. Her early instrumental training included flute lessons in high school and study of the bağlama and Turkish folk music at the Denizli Municipality Conservatory. She began composing as a child and performed in choruses and as a soloist while at university.

Career

Mosso established herself as both a performer and a teacher. Early parts of her career included teaching piano, flute, solfège and harmony to school-age students and performing in Istanbul on the Kadıköy–Beşiktaş line. She also co-founded a band called Zbam The Band with friends and competed on the Turkish singing reality show O Ses Türkiye in 2011.

Her profile grew substantially after she uploaded a cover of “Hiç Işık Yok” to YouTube in 2017; that recording received widespread attention and was later used in the Turkish television series Çukur.
