Early life and backgroundMilind Deora was born on 4 December 1976 in Bombay, Maharashtra. Raised in a family with a political background, he attended The Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and later studied at Sydenham College of Economics. He completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1999 and pursued further studies at the Questrom School of Business, Boston University.
Deora developed an early interest in music, particularly the blues. While in Boston he deepened that interest, learning blues guitar and drawing inspiration from artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and B.B. King. He has performed on stage with well-known blues musicians and participated in bands in India, including a Delhi-based group active until 2011 and collaborations with Shillong blues musicians.
Career
Despite his family’s political background, Deora initially worked in the private sector while studying in Boston. He later entered public life and was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004 from the Mumbai South constituency. During his first term he served on the Standing Committee on Defence and was part of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence.
