Early life and background
Gurinder Kaur Kainth was born on 4 December 1980 in Rajpura, Punjab. Raised in a family where her father practiced Sikhism and her mother followed Hinduism, she began formal music lessons at a very young age and was encouraged by her father to pursue the art. She later completed higher education at Punjabi University, Patiala, earning postgraduate and professional qualifications in music, including an M.A. and a B.Ed.

Before launching her entertainment career, she worked for two years as a music teacher at Patel Public School in Rajpura. Her first salary was reported to be ₹4,500 per month during that teaching stint.

Miss Pooja entered the Punjabi music scene as a singer and over time built a prolific recording career.
