Early life and background

Mitra Gadhavi was born on 22 September 1990 in Vadodara, Gujarat. Raised in a family where the arts interested him from a young age, he participated in stage plays throughout school and college. He completed a bachelor’s degree at SEMCOM College in Vallabh Vidyanagar before moving to Mumbai in pursuit of an acting career.

After an initial attempt at making it in Mumbai, Gadhavi returned to Vadodara and worked in human resources for a period. He later relocated to Mumbai again and established himself as an actor in the Gujarati film industry.

Career

Gadhavi’s screen debut came in the Gujarati film Chhello Divas – A New Beginning (2015), in which he played the character Loy. The same year he appeared in Bas Ek Chance as Meet. Over the following years he combined work in feature films, short films, stage productions and online videos, developing a varied résumé as an actor, writer and director.

On stage, he wrote and directed the play Listen We Need to Talk in 2016. That year he also made a television appearance in an episode of the Hindi crime anthology series Crime Patrol on Sony Entertainment Television.

He launched the YouTube channel Kaafi Random in 2017 and began producing and starring in digital shorts. On his channel he acted in, wrote and directed pieces such as Genie Nahi Dunga (2017), N A Shah – Joint Family (2018), Not So WELLentine (2018), Pehla Thayu Che? (2018), Main, Meri Girlfriend aur WOH! (2019) and Cafe Locha Marto-Na (2019). He was credited as actor, writer and director on the short Karnamu (2018) and on other short-form projects.

In Gujarati cinema he earned recognition for comic and supporting turns. He played Chirag in Shu Thayu? (2018), a performance that drew particular appreciation, and later won Best Actor in Comic Role at the Ehsaas Awards for that film. His filmography also includes Daav Thai Gayo Yaar (2016), Ventilator (2018), Family Circus (2018), Affraa Taffri (2020), Hun Iqbal (2023) and the 2022 release Hey Kem Chho London, in which he portrayed Krishna.

Gadhavi took roles in short films that reached festival and digital platforms. He played Vikram in the short film Anita (2020), which was the first Gujarati-language film to be screened at the Venice Film Festival. He appeared alongside Abhishek Banerjee in the Hindi short Vakeel Babu (2021), which streamed on Amazon miniTV. In 2023 he received critical acclaim for his performance as Bhargav in 3 Ekka.

Beyond acting, Gadhavi has contributed off-screen: in 2019 he assisted Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao with Gujarati diction for the film Made in China. He has also worked on brand commercials for products including Bingo potato chips and the OPPO A7 mobile phone.
