Early life and backgroundMohammad Rizwan was born on 1 June 1992 in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He grew up in that region and later established himself as a professional cricketer representing Pakistan at the highest level. Rizwan is a right-handed batter and a wicket-keeper by trade. He stands approximately 1.77 m (5'8") tall and his listed playing weight is about 65 kg (143 lbs). His eyes are dark brown and his natural hair color is black.
Career
Rizwan made his international debut for Pakistan in 2015. His first One Day International appearance came on 17 April 2015 against Bangladesh at the Sher‑E‑Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. He made his Twenty20 International debut a few days earlier on 24 April 2015, also against Bangladesh at the same ground, and first batted in a T20I on 24 May 2015 versus Zimbabwe at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. His Test debut arrived on 25 November 2016 against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
Across a long domestic and franchise career, Rizwan has represented a wide range of teams. Early in his career he played for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and the Peshawar Panthers. He has also turned out for Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans (as captain in 2021), Sylhet Sixers/Sylhet Thunder, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (as captain), Peshawar, Federally administered tribal areas and other sides in Pakistan’s domestic structure and regional‑level competitions.
Rizwan’s game is built around dependable wicket‑keeping and a compact right‑handed batting technique. He has produced notable performances in domestic fixtures, including a 224 in the final of the Quaid‑e‑Azam Trophy that helped Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited claim the title in 2014–15. He has also recorded a List‑A best of 140 from 123 balls for Punjab in May 2018.
On the international stage Rizwan has built a reputation particularly in white‑ball cricket. He became the first Pakistani wicket‑keeper to score a T20I century when he reached three figures against South Africa on 11 February 2021 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. He has scored centuries in ODIs as well, including a 115 against Australia at Sharjah on 24 March 2019 and another hundred in the same Australia series in Dubai five days later. Those innings helped reestablish him in the national side after earlier periods out of selection.
Rizwan has formed several high-impact partnerships at the top of the order, most notably with Babar Azam. Their opening stands include the highest unbeaten opening partnership in Men’s T20 World Cup history — an unbeaten 152 against India on 24 October 2021 — and the highest partnership for any wicket by a pair in T20I chasing, achieved against South Africa in April 2021. He has also posted the most sixes by a Pakistani in a single T20I innings (seven) and has the distinction of scoring more than 50 in three consecutive T20Is with scores of 89, 104 and 51.
Rizwan’s skill behind the stumps has been widely noted. He recorded the most catches in an international series by a Pakistan wicket‑keeper with 31, and his glove work drew praise during Pakistan’s Test tour of England where commentators highlighted his performances. His batting record includes centuries across all three international formats, making him one of the few wicket‑keeper batters globally to reach that mark.
Public profile
Rizwan has been recognized at the international level with awards and acknowledgements. He was named one of Wisden’s cricketers of the year in 2021. He has also been given the national jersey number 16 for Pakistan and in Pakistan Super League competitions.
Off the field, Rizwan’s personal details in the public domain include that he is married and the father of two daughters. His listed personal preferences include a liking for football, the Multan International Cricket Stadium as a favored ground, and Kabuli Pulao as a favorite dish. He has cited Babar Azam as a favorite batter and Adam Gilchrist as a favorite wicket‑keeper.

Notable series performances include a strong showing in the Test series in England where he scored 161 runs across matches and earned praise for his wicket‑keeping, and his run of high scores in T20 internationals in 2021 that elevated his standing in the format.
