Mohan Yadav was born on 25 March 1965 in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, where he continues to be identified with his hometown. He studied locally, attending Govt. Madhav Science PG College and later Vikram University in Ujjain, where he completed degrees that include a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Laws, a Master of Arts in Political Science and Government, an MBA and a PhD from Vikram University. He is married to Seema Yadav; the couple married on 14 January 1993 and have three children.

Career

Yadav’s public life began in student politics. In the early 1980s he served in elected and organisational roles at Madhav Science College and within the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), progressing through city, zonal and state-level responsibilities into national positions. Through the 1990s and 2000s he held a range of organisational posts tied to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the BJP’s youth wing, and he took on roles in civic bodies including the executive council of Vikram University.

Over subsequent decades Yadav moved into government office. He served as a cabinet minister in Madhya Pradesh from 2011 to 2013 and returned to cabinet rank on 2 July 2020.
