Early life and backgroundMohit D. Suri was born on 11 April 1981 in Mumbai and grew up in the city that remains his hometown. He is the son of Daksh Suri and Heena Suri. His mother worked as an air hostess; his father worked for a multinational company and later lived in Chennai. Mohit has a younger sister, Smiley Suri, who is a model, actor and dancer. His maternal family includes filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, and his cousins include Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt and Emraan Hashmi.
Mohit left school early to begin working in the film world. At 16 he joined his uncle Mahesh Bhatt’s office, performing tasks such as delivering cassettes. Those early experiences in the industry helped shape his path into filmmaking.

Mohit Suri established himself as a director and writer with his feature debut Zeher in 2005. Mohit Suri married actress Udita Goswami on 29 January 2013 at the ISKCON Temple in Juhu, Mumbai. The couple met on the sets of Zeher in 2003, dated for several years and married after a long relationship. They have two children: a daughter, Devi, born in January 2018, and a son, Karma, born in 2019. Mohit has a band tattoo on his right forearm that includes his daughter’s name.
