Early life and background

Moisés Constantino Henriques was born on 1 February 1987 in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. His family relocated to New South Wales, Australia, when he was a toddler. He grew up in New South Wales and attended Endeavour Sports High School, where his early promise in cricket was recognised; the school later named a playing field in his honour and installed a gateway at its entrance acknowledging his achievements.

Henriques comes from a sporting family. His father, Álvaro Henriques, was a professional footballer in Portugal. Moises took to cricket at a young age and originally aspired to be a fast bowler. Recurrent injuries led him to adapt his bowling to a seaming role, and he developed into an all-rounder able to contribute with both bat and ball. He has cited Jacques Kallis as a personal role model.

Career

Henriques established himself in youth international cricket before moving through the domestic ranks. He featured prominently in Under-19 World Cups, taking numerous wickets and contributing with the bat. Notable junior performances included prolific wicket-taking in the 2004 Under-19 World Cup and a standout 2006 tournament where he was among the leading wicket takers.

At domestic level he has represented New South Wales and been a long-term presence in Australia's domestic competitions. His domestic form with both bat and ball helped earn him selection at the senior international level. Henriques made his international Twenty20 debut for Australia on 15 February 2009 against New Zealand in Sydney, his One Day International debut on 31 October 2009 versus India in Delhi, and his Test debut on 22 February 2013 against India in Chennai.

In franchise cricket he has played for multiple teams in the Indian Premier League and other competitions, including Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has also been associated with the Sydney Sixers in Australia and had a stint with Glamorgan. He has worn the #21 jersey for Australia and has worn the #5 shirt for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Across his career Henriques has recorded several milestones. As a teenager in Under-19 cricket he compiled significant wicket hauls and important batting contributions, including a century in an Under-19 series against India and a five-wicket haul in first-class cricket at a young age that set a record for New South Wales. His consistent performances in first-class cricket were particularly influential in opening the door to international selection.

Public profile

Henriques is known by nicknames such as Mozzie and Moey. He stands around 188 cm (6 feet 2 inches) tall and has brown eyes and brown hair. Outside cricket, he enjoys playing golf and has listed travel destinations such as Mumbai, Cornwall and Cape Town among his favourites. Rugby and the all-round skills of Jacques Kallis have been among his sporting interests and influences.

Personal life

Henriques married Krista Thomas, a radio news presenter, on 11 August 2018 at Newell Beach in Queensland. The couple have one son. He is an Australian national and follows Christianity.

Latest updates

During his career Henriques received youth recognition including the inaugural Rexona Australian Youth Cricket Scholarship. In the Indian Premier League he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2009 season and later traded to Delhi Daredevils in 2010. Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased him ahead of the 2014 season and retained him thereafter. In February 2013 he became one of the few cricketers born in Portugal to play a Test match for Australia.

As an established all-rounder with international caps across formats and a lengthy domestic and franchise résumé, Henriques remains a recognised figure in Australian cricket.
