Monali Thakur was born on 3 November 1985 in Kolkata, into a Bengali Hindu family with strong musical roots. Her father, Shakti Thakur, is a Bengali singer. She grew up in Kolkata, attended The Future Foundation School and later studied at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, where she completed a B.A. in English Honours.

She began recording at a very young age, making her first recording at age six. Thakur trained in Hindustani classical music under Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and the late Pandit Jagdish Prasad. In addition to classical vocal training, she studied dance forms including Bharatanatyam, hip-hop, and salsa.

Monali Thakur’s career spans playback singing across several Indian film industries and acting work in television and films.
