Monica Patel Biography

Monica Patel is an Indian cricketer from Bangalore who bowls left-arm medium pace and bats left-handed. She made her WODI debut for India in March 2021 and

Early life and background
Monica Chhelaram Patel was born on 26 April 1999 in Bangalore, Karnataka, and grew up in the city after her family relocated there from Rajasthan. She learned the game playing informal gully cricket with her brother and the neighbourhood children, where her natural aptitude for batting first drew attention. Neighbours recommended she join a local cricket club, and under club coaching she discovered a knack for bowling when she dismissed a more senior player during practice.

Her coach encouraged her to develop as an all-rounder, but Monica initially preferred batting. Over time she embraced the bowling role and trained to become a left-arm medium pacer—a skill she has described as giving her advantages through different angles to right-handed batters.

Career
Monica rose through junior ranks with a Karnataka under-19 debut in 2015, which led to selection for the Karnataka senior women's team. Early on she found playing opportunities limited because of competition from established bowlers, but she continued performing in domestic tournaments. In the 2018–19 senior one-day competition she took six wickets, and in the following year she claimed four wickets before the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In January 2021 she appeared in the Falcons Sports Club golden jubilee T20 tournament and picked up three wickets. Her domestic form earned her a national call-up in March 2021 when she was selected for India’s WODI squad to face South Africa.

Monica made her Women’s One Day International debut on 7 March 2021 in Lucknow. She bowled four overs in that first match, conceding 20 runs. She spoke openly about the intensity of international cricket, describing the nerves she felt before and during her debut and reflecting on the smaller margin for error at the highest level. Although she featured in only the opening match of that series, she later returned to play in the final match and reported a stronger performance.

In 2022 Monica was part of the Supernovas squad in the Women’s T20 competition. The following year, in the 2023 Women’s Premier League auction, Gujarat Giants bought her on 13 February 2023 for Rs 30 lakh. That edition of the WPL began on 4 March 2023 at DY Patil Stadium.

Playing style and attributes
Monica bats left-handed and bowls left-arm medium pace. She has emphasized the tactical benefits of being a left-arm seamer, including the ability to create different angles and bring the ball into right-handed batters. Across domestic one-day and T20 tournaments she has contributed with wickets and has aimed to develop greater consistency as she transitions between domestic and international levels.

Public profile
Monica is listed as 170 cm tall (5 feet 7 inches). Her hair and eye colour are recorded as black. She is unmarried and continues to be associated with Karnataka at the domestic level while representing franchise teams in national T20 competitions. Her nationality is Indian and her zodiac sign is Taurus.

Latest updates
As of early 2023 she was 24 years old and playing in the Women’s Premier League for Gujarat Giants after the auction purchase in February. She has expressed a desire to learn from senior teammates and to make the most of opportunities when they arise, focusing on bowling quickly and contributing effectively for her side.

Monica’s journey from neighbourhood cricket to domestic and international appearances highlights a steady progression rooted in adaptability—initially a batter by inclination, she developed into a left-arm pace option who aims to leverage her unique angle as she builds her career.
