Early life and backgroundMuhammed Ajmal Variyathodi was born on 1 June 1998 in Palakkad, Kerala. Raised in the state he still lists as his hometown, Ajmal attended Mar Athanasius College of Engineering in Kothamangalam. As a youngster he played football, reaching under-19 state-level competition in Kerala, before a coach suggested he try sprinting. That switch set the path for a career on the track.
Career
Ajmal made his international debut in 2019 at the Summer Universiade in Naples, where he ran the 200 metres and advanced to the semifinals.
