Mukul Dev Kaushal was born on 30 November 1970 in Delhi, India. He grew up in the capital and attended St. Columba’s School before pursuing training in aeronautics at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi in Raibareli, Uttar Pradesh. Trained as a pilot, Dev worked in aviation before shifting into acting.

Career
Dev made his screen debut in 1996. That year he appeared in the Hindi feature film Dastak in the role of ACP Rohit Malhotra and also acted in the television series Mumkin as Vijay Pandey. Over the following decades he built a cross-regional filmography that included appearances in Punjabi, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam and Tamil cinema.
