Munisha Khatwani was born on 18 September 1980 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in a middle‑class family, she grew up in the same city she still calls home. Her mother is Shirley Khatwani and she had a close relationship with her father until his death from cancer in 2002. Munisha has a brother named Sohal Khatwani. She follows Hinduism and belongs to the Sindhi community.

She showed an early interest in dance, joining Farah Khan’s dance group in 1998 and later training with Terence Lewis for about a year. Dancing remained one of her hobbies as her career developed.
