Early life and background

Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman was born on 6 September 1995 in Tetulia village in Satkhira district, Khulna division, Bangladesh. He is the youngest of six children, raised by his parents Abul Qasem Gazi and Mahmuda Khatun in a rural setting. His father worked in farming and later in prawn cultivation. Rahman grew up playing sport in his village alongside friends, taking part in football as well as cricket.

A naturally talented bowler, he was encouraged by his family and local coaches as a teenager. His brother Mokhlesur Rahman played a supportive role in taking him to matches, and coach Altaf at Satkhira Gonomukhi Sangha steered him toward bowling after spotting his action. Academically he left formal schooling after the 10th grade (SSC).

Career

Rahman emerged through Bangladesh’s youth ranks and represented the country at the 2014 Under‑19 World Cup, where he took eight wickets. He progressed to Bangladesh A before breaking into the senior national side in 2015.

He made his international Twenty20 debut in April 2015, his One‑Day International debut on 18 June 2015 against India in Dhaka, and his Test debut on 21 July 2015 against South Africa in Chittagong. He bowls left‑arm fast‑medium and bats left‑handed. Rahman quickly became known for his slower cutter deliveries and earned the nicknames “Fizz” and “Cutter Master.” He wears the number 90 for Bangladesh and has used that number in franchise cricket as well.
