Nadeem Akhtar Saifi was born on 6 August 1954 in Mumbai. He grew up in a family with business background; his father was a businessman and his grandfather received the honorary title Khan Bahadur Saheb during the British era. Saifi showed an early interest in music and learned to play musical instruments while attending St. Mary's High School in Mazgaon.

Career

Saifi began composing for films in the 1970s, with a credited debut in the Bhojpuri film Dangal (1975). He teamed up with Shravan Rathod to form the composer duo Nadeem–Shravan. The partnership produced music for more than 150 films and became one of the most successful composer teams in Hindi cinema.

Their breakthrough came with the soundtrack of Aashiqui (1990), a record-setting album whose songs achieved massive commercial success. Across the 1990s the duo won multiple awards for film music, including successive Filmfare Best Music Director awards and additional industry honors for scores on films such as Saajan, Deewana, Raja Hindustani, Pardes and others. They worked with a wide range of prominent playback singers of the era, from Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi to contemporary voices like Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam.

The Nadeem–Shravan partnership effectively ended in the mid-2000s; after composing together for decades, they split in 2005 and pursued individual projects. Saifi later returned to Hindi film music with work on Ishq Forever (2016), collaborating with lyricist Sameer Pandey. Outside of composing, Saifi moved into business pursuits and founded a perfume venture called Arabian Attars.

Some individuals implicated in the crime later denied his involvement.
