Early life and background

Naimal Khawar was born on 17 November 1993 in Peshawar, Pakistan. She grew up with a Pakhtun father and a Persian mother and later made Islamabad her hometown. From an early age she wanted to be a painter and pursued formal training in visual arts, graduating from the National College of Arts in Lahore. While at college she was active in theatre and completed an art thesis on the transgender community that earned distinction.

Career

Khawar established herself first as a professional painter and has held exhibitions to display her work. Her artwork often addresses social issues; she has used her practice to speak about subjects she considers taboo and to highlight themes such as women’s experiences.

Her transition into acting came late in her studies when filmmaker Shoaib Mansoor, having seen her photographs online, invited her to audition.
