Early life and background

Nalin Moniz was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in 1984 and grew up in that city. He completed his schooling at St. Mary's School, Mount Abu, and later earned an International Baccalaureate certification from the American-British Academy. He pursued higher education at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School, graduating in 2005 with studies that included computer science, finance, statistics and a minor in mathematics as part of the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology.

Career

Moniz began his career with experience in global finance. In 2004 he worked as a summer analyst in New York and in July 2005 he joined Goldman Sachs in New York, where he remained until 2009. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in July 2009.

Following the financial turbulence of 2008, Moniz returned to India. In July 2009 he and his wife, Radhika Gupta, established Forefront Capital, with Moniz serving as a director. Under their stewardship Forefront Capital grew and went on to become one of the earliest officially licensed hedge funds in India. Moniz continued with Forefront Capital until May 2014.

In May 2014 he joined Edelweiss Asset Management Limited as Chief Investment Officer for Alternative Equity. He also led an emerging leaders program at Edelweiss from August 2014 to June 2018. Beyond corporate roles, he has worked as a mentor and coach: since June 2017 he has been involved in mentoring Catholic youth through a Mumbai program called Take Charge, and in January 2019 he began coaching beginner triathlon aspirants at SaBeR Fitness Centre in Mumbai.
