Early life and background

Taraka Ratna Ramarao Nandamuri, known professionally as Nandamuri Tarakaratna, was born on 22 February 1983 in Nimmakuru, Andhra Pradesh, India. He belonged to the prominent Nandamuri family and was a grandson of the veteran Telugu actor N. T. Rama Rao. Raised in Nimmakuru, he was Indian by nationality and identified with the Hindu faith.

Physical presence and personal interests

Tarakaratna stood about 1.80 meters tall (approximately 5 feet 11 inches) and maintained a reported weight of around 75 kilograms. His eye colour was dark brown and his hair was black. Known to enjoy playing cricket in his spare time, he also had a tattoo of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s signature on his right bicep.

Career

Tarakaratna began his film career in 2002, making his debut in the Telugu film Okato Number Kurradu where he portrayed the character Balu. Over the next decade he took on a variety of roles across Telugu cinema. One of his most noted performances came in 2009, when he played the character Srinu in the film Amaravathi; his performance in that film earned him the Nandi Award for Best Villain the same year.

He continued to appear in Telugu films through the 2010s, including playing the lead role in Nandeeswarudu (2012), a production in which his wife later worked as a costume designer.

Tarakaratna was publicly affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He married costume designer Alekhya (Alekya) Reddy on 2 August 2012 at Sanghi Temple in Hyderabad. The couple had a daughter named Nishka, born in 2013. At the time of his death he had separated living arrangements from his parents, a detail tied to family disagreements over his marriage decision.
