Narayan Sirumalani, also known by the name Narayan Prem Sai, was born on 29 January 1972 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He grew up in Ahmedabad and is the son of Asaram Bapu and Lakshmi Devi. From an early age he was immersed in a disciplined spiritual upbringing under the guidance of his father, which included living with ascetics and undertaking rigorous practices intended to build character and endurance.

During his school years he was reportedly a strong student in primary classes and took an early interest in spiritual life. He left formal schooling after ninth grade and thereafter devoted himself to serving his father and pursuing spiritual practices. Accounts indicate that he spent extended periods living in forested and ascetic environments in places such as Mount Abu, Himmantnagar, Jhabua, Haridwar and Rishikesh.

Narayan Sai established himself as a religious leader who follows Advaita Vedanta and communicates a message focused on the presence of a supreme reality in every person.
