Early life and background

Nayandeep Rakshit was born on 13 May 1992 in Kolkata, West Bengal, and grew up in a Bengali family. He completed his schooling at Vivekananda Mission School in Joka and later pursued higher studies, earning a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. As a teenager he initially studied science for classes 11 and 12 at his father’s encouragement, before deciding to follow a career in journalism.

Nayandeep is known by the nickname Mantu. He is multilingual, comfortable speaking English, Hindi, Bengali and Spanish. He has described himself as non-vegetarian and counts Shah Rukh Khan among his favourite actors. His family includes his mother, Nandini Rakshit, and an older brother, Rajdeep Rakshit, who works in banking.

Nayandeep’s journalism experience began early. While still a student he worked with the student-run newspaper The Telegraph in Schools (TTIS) from 2004 to 2011, serving as a reporter and executive and later as senior tiger reporter. He moved into professional reporting in the 2010s, contributing to outlets and channels including ABP News, Aditya Group, and the news magazine G’day India as a reporter and Bollywood correspondent.

From 2012 onward he built a varied portfolio across entertainment journalism and digital media. He freelanced for Hues of Aspiration and joined the entertainment portal Koimoi in 2012 as an interview specialist and news writer. He later held sub-editor roles at DNA India and at the publication Youth Eye. Additional bylines listed for him include Tollywood Dhamaka and Altamode.

In September 2013 and through the mid-2010s Nayandeep continued developing his editorial craft. He took on roles at DNA After Hours and other outlets, and in April 2019 he became a senior entertainment correspondent at PinkVilla. In 2021 he moved into a leadership position at Bollywood Bubble where he served as business and content head.
