Raised in a musically inclined, middle-class family with roots in Jaipur, Rajasthan, she grew up attending the ISKCON temple in Vrindavan and was drawn to musical performance from a young age. Mohan trained in Hindustani classical music for about a decade at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi and developed her stage experience by singing in school and inter-school competitions.
She completed her schooling at Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Pilani, and went on to earn a B.A. (Hons.) in Philosophy from Miranda House, University of Delhi.
