Early life and backgroundNeetu Pandey was born on 28 November 1979 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and belongs to a Brahmin family. She completed her schooling and later graduated through Kanpur University (now CSJM University) via distance education after becoming a mother. Her hometown is Lucknow, where she lived for much of her early life and began pursuing performing arts.
Career
Pandey’s interest in acting developed through exposure to local drama activity in Lucknow. She attended a summer workshop at the Bhartendu Natya Academy and performed in a number of stage productions in the city. One of her early notable stage appearances was in Habib Tanvir’s Charandas Chor, where she stepped into a principal part unexpectedly. She continued to work in theatre in Lucknow until around 2008 and also started performing for Doordarshan as a B-grade artist.
On television she hosted shows including Krishi Darshan for Doordarshan and Salaam UP for ETV before moving to Mumbai on 24 December 2008 to seek wider opportunities. Her first Mumbai shoot took place on 27 December 2008, and she gradually took on small screen roles and episodic parts, earning experience and daily wages for those early assignments.
Between 2010 and 2011 she appeared in multiple episodes of the long-running police series CID. She gained visibility through work in crime anthology programmes such as Savdhaan India: Crime Alert and Crime Patrol Dial 100, and she appeared in Gumrah: End of Innocence. Her television credits also include Har Yug Mein Aayega Ek – Arjun (2012). In 2022 Pandey portrayed Narmada Rathore, the mother of Aryan and Arpita, on the Star Plus drama Imlie. Around the same period she appeared as a mother figure in Aggar Tum Na Hote on Zee TV, and in 2023 she took on the role of Jyoti, Deva’s mother, in Chand Jalne Laga on Colors TV. In 2024 she played Kaikasi in Sony’s mythological series Shrimad Ramayan.
Pandey’s screen work extends to films as well. She made her feature-film debut in 2005 with the romantic comedy Main, Meri Patni… Aur Woh!, and later appeared as Jillani’s wife in Baabarr (2009) and as Aslam’s mother in Satyameva Jayate (2018). Additional film credits include Bhonsle (2018), Marudhar Express (2019), Phulmania (2019), Shorgul (2016), Happy Bhaag Jayegi (2016), T for Taj Mahal (2018), Babuji Aur Humsab (2021), Satyameva Jayate 2 (2021), Hurdang (2022), Naach Baiju Naach (2022) and Lohardaga (2023). She featured in the Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans (2021) and appeared in the short film Eidi: A Gift of Faith (2018).
Pandey has also worked in digital series, including My Name is Sheela (2019) and Love J Action on Sony Liv (2021), and she was part of the DD Kisan programme Kiske Roke Ruka Hai Savera in 2020. Her stage work includes the play Sandhya Chhaya by Punit Asthana, which was later telecast on Lucknow Doordarshan.
