Niira Radia was born on 19 November 1960 in Nairobi, Kenya, into a Punjabi family. During the 1970s her family relocated to London, where she was raised alongside her sisters. She attended Haberdashers' Aske's School for Girls in London. Radia returned to India in 1994 as a Person of Indian Origin.

Career

Radia began her professional life as an aviation consultant, working with organisations that included Sahara Airlines, Singapore Airlines and the Tata Group. Over time she transitioned into healthcare entrepreneurship.

In 2002 she established the Sudesh Foundation in memory of her mother, Sudesh Rani Menon. A decade later she formalised her healthcare interests by incorporating Nayati Healthcare in 2012. The company launched initially with a mobile medical-van service designed to serve pilgrims in Badrinath, Uttarakhand. That early program deployed 17 mobile units and nearly 140 paramedics to provide on-site medical assistance.
