Early life and background

Niketan Sharma was born on 2 May in Jaipur, Rajasthan. His family moved to Delhi a few months after his birth. He completed his schooling at Government Model Senior Secondary School in Vivek Vihar, Delhi, and went on to study at Kirori Mal College where he graduated. While in college he initially considered becoming a Chartered Accountant but became involved with the college theatre group, The Players, which set him on a path toward the performing arts.

He learned foundational acting skills under Keval Arora, a retired staff advisor and English professor associated with The Players. After shifting his focus from accountancy to theatre, he trained further in Mumbai; he moved there in 2014 and attended an acting course at the Drama School in Mumbai during 2014–2015.

Career

Niketan works across acting, writing and directing. He began creating work in theatre and short film formats, with a writing credit on the short film Bundle of Questions (2016). As an actor and filmmaker he made his stage debut with the play Adrak in 2018.

He gained wider recognition for his performance as Naveen Shetty, also known as Gambhir, in the web series Cubicles (2019), which streamed on SonyLIV. He later appeared as the character KK in the web series Candy, which was released on Voot in 2021.

Beyond screen work, Niketan has written and directed several stage productions, including Bone of Contention (2020) and Photo Copy (2022). He founded a production house called NOW Productions to produce theatre work and has presented several shows at Mumbai’s Prithvi Theatre.

Niketan also shares his skills through a monologue-focused acting workshop titled Solo, where he coaches performers in solo-performance techniques.
