Early life and background

Nimisha Bindu Sajayan was born on 4 January 1997 in Mumbai and raised there. She is of Malayali heritage and grew up in a household with parents originally from Kollam, Kerala. Her father, Sajayan, is an engineer and her mother, Bindhu Sajayan, is a homemaker. Nimisha has one sister, Nithu Nair, who works in Pune.

From an early age Nimisha was active in sports at school: she competed in running, swimming and skating and captained both the football and volleyball teams. She also earned a black belt in Taekwondo while in eighth grade. She attended Carmel Convent High School in Mumbai and later studied mass communication at K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management in Mumbai.

Career

Nimisha began her acting journey in short films. Her first recorded screen appearance was in the Malayalam short Nethram (2017), where she portrayed a rape victim. That same year she made the jump to feature films and gained attention for her role as Sreeja in the Malayalam feature Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum (2017).

Over the next several years she worked across multiple South Indian film industries and beyond. Notable Malayalam projects include Oru Kuprasidha Payyan (2018), Chola (2019), Stand Up (2019), The Great Indian Kitchen (2021) and Oru Thekkan Thallu Case (2022). Her performances in Oru Kuprasidha Payyan and Chola won critical notice. She has also appeared in films in other languages: the Marathi film Hawa Hawai (2022), the Tamil film Chithha (2023), and the English-language Footprints on Water (2023). In Hindi she is credited for the short film Ghar Se (2020).
