Early life and background

Nitin Kumar Dhankhar was born on 21 May 2001 in Kaloi, a village in Jhajjar district of Haryana. He grew up in the same hometown and is identified with the state of Haryana. Nitin lost his father at a young age; following that loss his uncle Tejpal Singh became an important influence and supporter as he pursued kabaddi.

He began formal training in 2017 when he joined the Narwal Kabaddi and Sports Academy in Haryana. There he worked under coach Naresh Narwal, who is known for coaching prominent players in the sport. Nitin has said his entry into competitive kabaddi came after the tenth grade, when he turned from academics to sport and committed to gym and on-field training.

Career

Nitin is a raider by trade and has worn different jersey numbers in domestic competitions, including #19 in the Pro Kabaddi League and #9 in the Yuva Kabaddi Series. He competed in the K7 Kabaddi Stage Up championships in 2021, appearing in three matches, and moved on to the Yuva Kabaddi Series in 2022.

The 2022 Yuva Kabaddi Series was a breakthrough season for Nitin. Playing for the Hampi Heroes, he became the first player in the competition to reach 500 raid points in a single season, registering a raid strike rate of 73.90 percent. His performances helped Hampi Heroes win the Yuva Kabaddi Series event in Ranchi that year, and he was recognized during the tournament as Best Raider of the Match on at least one occasion.
