Early life and background

Nivetha Pethuraj was born on 30 November 1991 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. She moved with her family to Dubai at age eleven and lived there for about a decade. Nivetha completed her schooling at GEMS Our Own Indian School in Dubai and went on to graduate in Human Resource Management from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. She lists reading, gardening, painting, listening to music and travel among her interests.

Career

Nivetha began public life through beauty pageants. In April 2015 she won the Miss India UAE title and later that year was a top-five finalist at the Miss India Worldwide contest in Mumbai. Following her pageant success she transitioned into films, making her Tamil debut in 2016 as Kavya in Oru Naal Koothu. That performance earned her recognition as a promising newcomer.

She expanded into Telugu cinema in 2017 with Mental Madhilo, playing the role of Swetcha and receiving critical attention and a SIIMA nomination for Best Female Debut – Telugu. In 2017 she also appeared in the Tamil film Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam.

Across the next several years Nivetha took a range of parts in commercial and critically noticed films. In 2018 she portrayed an army officer, Lt. M. Swathi, in the commercial venture Tik Tik Tik. She played a corporate executive named K. Swecha in the 2019 film Chitralahari and appeared as Anbarasi Manickavel in the Tamil crime drama Pon Manickavel. In 2020 she was cast as Nandini “Nandu” in Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and in 2021 she played SI Yamini in Red.

Her filmography continued with two 2022 releases, Bloody Mary (as Mary) and Virata Parvam (as Dr. Sarala). In 2023 she played Keerthi in Das Ka Damki and made her Hindi web-series debut as Sitara in Kaala on Disney+ Hotstar.
