Early life and background

Nupur Shikhare was born on 17 October 1985 in Pune, Maharashtra. Raised in a sporting environment, he played tennis at the national level during his youth and trained in capoeira, an Afro‑Brazilian martial art, while growing up. He attended S. D. Katariya High School in Pune and later studied at R. A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai.

Career

After moving from Pune to Mumbai in 2004, Shikhare explored filmmaking and created short films that led to a brief role as an assistant director for a Marathi filmmaker. He transitioned into fitness training after taking a job at the gym where he worked out. Early in his training career he promoted himself actively, handing out business cards around Bandra and looking for opportunities in the area’s gyms.

A major turning point came in March 2008, when he was hired as a personal trainer by actress Sushmita Sen. That engagement helped establish him as a celebrity trainer, and he has since worked with several well‑known figures in Indian entertainment, including Aamir Khan, Ira Khan and Kiran Rao. Shikhare specialises in calisthenics and movement‑based training and is proficient in multiple modalities such as circuit and functional training, parkour, martial arts, capoeira, CrossFit and bodyweight methods.

Beyond one‑to‑one coaching, Shikhare has tested his own endurance in multisport events. He completed his first triathlon, Ironman 70.3 Taiwan, in 2014 and has competed in other endurance events including Ironman Copenhagen in 2017 and the Canthon cancer awareness run in 2019, where he finished second. In 2017 he appeared on the sports entertainment reality series Ultimate Beastmaster: India, which streamed on Netflix and featured athletes attempting a demanding obstacle course.

In 2018 he worked as an action director on the Disney India television production Aladdin, showing an extension of his skill set into stunt and action choreography. In September 2022 he became a brand ambassador for Scott Sports India, representing the Bicycle brand.

Their multi‑day festivities included public events in Udaipur, and the wedding ceremony took place at Taj Lands End in Mumbai. For one memorable moment surrounding the wedding, Shikhare arrived at the venue after jogging roughly eight kilometres with the baraat, dressed in shorts and a black vest.

Outside of work he enjoys endurance sports, is a dog lover and a follower of Lord Ganesha. He has been photographed consuming alcohol on occasion and using a hookah on social media.
