Nushrat Bharucha was born on 17 May 1985 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in a Dawoodi Bohra family, she grew up in an environment she has described as both orthodox and liberal. Acting and performance entered her life very early: she took part in school plays and gave her first stage performance at about four years old. She attended Lilavatibai Podar High School and later graduated from Jai Hind College in Mumbai.

Bharucha began her screen career with television, appearing in the serial Kittie Party in 2002.
