Early life and backgroundOm Raut was born on 21 December 1981 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in a family with strong ties to media and filmmaking, his father, Bharatkumar, is a senior journalist and Rajya Sabha member, and his mother, Neena Raut, works as a television producer and later co-founded a production company with him. Om attended Balmohan Vidyamandir in Mumbai for school and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Shah & Anchor College of Engineering. He completed a postgraduate program at Syracuse University in New York.
As a child he appeared in theatre and ad films and had a leading role in the 1993 film Karamati Coat. After his studies he worked with MTV Network in New York as a writer and director, before returning to India to take on creative and leadership roles in the film business.
Career
Raut’s early professional roles included creative positions at DAR Motion Pictures and a vice-president level role in the creative business at Valuable Group, the promoters of UFO-Moviez. He moved into film production, with credits on projects such as City of Gold (2010) and Haunted – 3D (2011). In 2012 he and his mother co-founded the production company Neena Raut Entertainment.
His directorial debut came in 2015 with the Marathi biopic Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush, produced under Neena Raut Entertainment.
