Early life and backgroundPadmini Kolhapure was born on 1 November 1965 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She grew up in a musically inclined family: her father was a trained classical singer and veena player, and the family carries the Kolhapure name that links them to Kolhapur in Maharashtra. She is the second of three daughters and began learning music at an early age, a foundation that helped launch her career in both singing and acting.
Career
Padmini started working in films as a child artist. Her early screen appearances include a singing contribution in 1973 for the film Yaadon Ki Baaraat and child-artist roles in films through the 1970s. One of her most noted child roles came in Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1977), and she also appeared in Ek Khiladi Bawan Pattey (1972) and Ishq Ishq Ishq (1975).
Transitioning to leading roles, Padmini made her debut as a lead actress in Ahista Ahista (1981). Her early adult career combined acting and singing: she recorded songs for films and released an album in 1985 titled Music Lover Dance Dance with Bappi Lahiri.
