Early life and background

Palak Gulia was born on 9 November 2005 in the village of Nimana, Jhajjar district in Haryana. Raised in a family led by her father Jogender Gulia, she spent her early school years in Jhajjar before moving to Gurgaon for further education. Her schooling includes time at Sehwag International School in Jhajjar and St Xavier’s High School in Gurgaon.

Palak grew up in a community where girls taking up competitive sport was not always encouraged. Her family relocated to Gurgaon to provide a more supportive environment for her to pursue shooting. She has two younger siblings who are twins, including a sister named Jhanvi.

Career

Palak competes primarily in 10m air pistol events and represents India in junior and senior-level competitions. She trains in air pistol disciplines including APW (Air Pistol Women), APMT (Air Pistol Mixed Team), APMIX (Air Pistol Mixed), and APTEAMW (Air Pistol Team Women).

Her initial exposure to the sport came while she was in school. She began formal training in Gurgaon and later continued at the Faridabad shooting range under coach Rakesh Singh. Her training has been supported by the Reliance Foundation.

In 2022 she helped secure gold in the Air Pistol Team Women Junior and the 10m Air Pistol Women Junior events at the ISSF Junior Cup in Suhl. That same year she won silver with a mixed-team pairing at the Junior Cup in Suhl and earned team silvers at the World Cup in Changwon and the World Championships in Cairo. She also contributed to a bronze-medal finish in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team at the World Cup in Changwon.

She was part of the Indian contingent for the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, competing in the 10m Air Pistol event in 2023.
