Pandit Pradeep Mishra, known as Sehore Wale Baba, is an Indian spiritual orator and chief priest at Kubereshwar Dham in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. Rising from

Early life and background

Pandit Pradeep Mishra was born on 16 June 1977 in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. He grew up in a family that experienced financial hardship; his father, Rameshwar Dayal Mishra, worked selling black grams on the street and later died of a cardiac arrest. His mother is Seeta Mishra. Pradeep spent his childhood accompanying his parents to spiritual gatherings in his village, and those early experiences shaped his inclination toward religious life.

As a young man he worked as a teacher for about ten years while also serving as a pandit in his village. Accounts differ about his formal education: some sources say he completed a graduate degree while others report he finished only up to intermediate studies. He later left teaching to pursue religious work full time.

Career

Pradeep Mishra trained under a guru, Shree Govardhan Nath, after being encouraged to seek formal deeksha before leading longer recitations. Following his initiation he began conducting Shrimad Bhagwat katha at small local gatherings and gradually developed an interest in Shiva Purana. He serves as the chief priest at Kubereshwar Dham, Kubereshwar Mahadev Mandir in Sehore.

During the COVID-19 lockdown he began uploading Shiva Purana kathas to his channel Pradeep Ji Mishra Sehore Wale. Those videos drew a large online audience and boosted his visibility; by February 2023 his YouTube channel had amassed millions of subscribers. After in-person events resumed, he organized large Shiva Purana kathas and a Rudraksha Mahotsav in Sehore that attracted thousands of attendees. His discourses have also been broadcast on the Hindi television channel Aastha.

Mishra has been involved in community initiatives in Sehore. He helped build the Kubereshwar Dham temple and established the Shri Vitthalesh Seva Samiti to provide free meals, cow welfare services, and medical assistance.

Public profile

Pradeep Mishra is often referred to by the epithet Sehore Wale Baba and is known for his energetic pravachans and kathas. His public appearances have at times generated controversy. At a large Shiva Purana katha and Rudraksha Mahotsav held on the eve of Maha Shivratri in 2023, crowding and a subsequent stampede resulted in fatalities; questions were raised about crowd management and organisers were asked to end the event early. Mishra later said he did not have clear information about the incident. He has also been criticised for remarks made during some of his kathas that offended sections of society and prompted calls for apologies from certain groups.

He was entered in the World Book of Records, London, in 2022 for having the highest number of subscribed viewers watching his video online simultaneously. One of his videos sparked social-media attention when he suggested a ritual to help children in exams; later reports that his son had failed exams led to online ridicule, which Mishra countered by sharing his son’s report card to show the boy had passed.

Personal life

Pradeep Mishra is married; his wedding took place on 5 December 2004. He and his wife have two sons, Madhav Mishra and Raghav Mishra. He belongs to the Brahmin caste and practises Hinduism. He is known to enjoy horse riding and reading spiritual books in his leisure time. He is approximately 1.73 m (5 ft 8 in) tall and has brown eyes and partially thinning brown hair.

Latest updates

Recent years have seen Mishra expand his reach both online and in-person, with televised broadcasts and large-scale events in his hometown. Community work through the Shri Vitthalesh Seva Samiti and construction of Kubereshwar Dham remain central to his local activities.
