He spent the first five years of his life in Kuwait before his family moved to Bangalore amid the regional instability caused by the Iraqi invasion. Advani grew up in a sporting and competitive household: his brother Shree played a formative role in his early cue-sports development and later worked as a sport and performance psychologist.

He was raised in a Sindhi family, follows Hinduism, and has described himself as a vegetarian. His father was Arjan Advani and his mother Kajal Advani; his father died when Pankaj was six years old.
Career
Advani began playing cue sports as a child, practising at snooker parlours alongside his brother. He won his first state title at the age of eleven, defeating his brother in the final. Internationally, he made his debut at the 2002 Asian Billiards Championship in Bangalore.
From the early 2000s Advani established himself as one of the most successful cue-sports athletes in the world. He captured his first world snooker crown in 2003 at age eighteen and continued to add major trophies in both snooker and billiards. Over his career he has won multiple world titles across formats: IBSF World Snooker Championships, IBSF Six-Red Snooker, World Billiards Championships in both time and points formats, and team events.
Notable milestones include being the first player to win both the points and time formats at the IBSF World Billiards Championship in the same year (2005), and winning the Grand Double on more than one occasion. His achievements span more than a decade and a half, with world titles recorded in 2003, 2005, 2007–2009, 2012, 2014–2015, 2016–2018 and beyond in different events.
Advani has credited both his brother Shree and coach Arvind Savur for their roles in his development and sustained success. Outside championship play, he has represented India at multi-sport events and won medals at the Asian Games as well as at other international competitions including the Australian Open.
