His parents were Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Heeraben Modi; his father died in 1989 and his mother passed away on 30 December 2022.

Pankaj Modi pursued a career in the Gujarat state administration, working in the information department. Over the course of his career he advanced to the position of deputy director, a promotion that came in 2014. He retired from that post and subsequently moved out of the government residence into a private bungalow in Vrindavan Society, Gujarat.
