Paoli Dam was born on 4 October 1980 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Raised in a Bengali family with parental roots in what is now Faridpur, Bangladesh, she completed her schooling at Loreto School in Bowbazar, Kolkata. She went on to study chemistry, earning a bachelor’s degree from Vidyasagar College for Women and a master’s degree from Rajabazar Science College (now University College of Science, Technology and Agriculture) in Kolkata. During her student years she took part in theatre productions and received scholarships for academic performance.

Career
Paoli began her on-screen career in Bengali television, making an early appearance in the Zee Bangla series Jibon Niye Khela (1999). She later played roles in other regional TV serials, including Tithir Atithi on ETV Bangla, where she took on a negative character, and series for channels such as Tara TV and Star Jalsha.

Her film debut came with Teen Yaari Katha, a production completed in 2004 that reached audiences later; her first Bengali theatrical release was Agnipariksha (2006), in which she played the role of Pooja. Over the next decade she established herself in Bengali cinema with performances in titles like I Love You (2007), Kaalbela (2009)—a role that brought her widespread notice and included work as a playback singer—and Moner Manush (2010), where she appeared alongside Prosenjit Chatterjee as Komli.
