Early life and background

Parneet Kaur was born in Punjab in 2005 and grew up in Mansa. Her father, Avtar Singh, who worked as a teacher, played a decisive role in her introduction to sport and supported the family’s move to Patiala so she could access better training and facilities. Parneet developed an early interest in reading and English literature, and has worn spectacles since about fifth standard. Her father has emphasized a vegetable-rich diet as part of measures to protect her eyesight.

Career

Parneet took up archery in 2015 after being given the choice between fencing and archery. She began formal, professional training in 2017 under coach Surinder Singh Randhawa at Punjabi University in Patiala. That foundation led to success at age-group and national events, including a silver at a National Inter-school tournament in 2019.

She has represented India in multiple international competitions, primarily in the compound discipline. In November 2021 she defeated an opponent from Vietnam in the women’s individual compound at the Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka. In 2022 she won an individual bronze at the Asia Cup stage in Sharjah, and contributed to team medals at other events that year.

The year 2023 was a breakthrough period in Parneet’s international résumé. She recorded notable wins at Asia Cup stages and World Archery events, and appeared on podiums both in individual and team competitions. At the Hyundai World Archery Championships in Berlin she was part of the Indian compound women’s team that won the gold medal in the team final. She also helped the team secure a bronze at the Archery World Cup stage in Medellin and won team gold at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. Across these events she combined individual match wins with strong team performances.
